Free talk on digital switchover.

The digital switchover of phone lines presents a risk to anyone with a care alarm, or any other equipment, which plugs into their phone line - and anyone else reliant on their landline. I offer a talk on the history, reasons, changes, risks and support available to help vulnerable people navigate the next 12 months.

The talk is free and available to any community groups, councils or charities in the Careline service area: https://www.careline-cs.org.uk/our-area/

I have a Powerpoint which I can show, but can also deliver the talk without it. I bring props and invite questions.

Feel free to pass on my details to any groups you think might be interested. BCKLWN is the only local authority working with the LGA and DSIT to minimize the risks and maximise the percentage of vulnerable landline users flagged by their CPs (Communications Providers) as vulnerable.

Best regards,

National Grid - Grimsby to Walpole

Thank you to everyone who took part in our Stage 2 consultation on Grimsby to Walpole between 11 June and 6 August 2025.

Now that Stage 2 consultation has concluded, our team is:

  • reviewing your feedback and continuing environmental, heritage and habitat surveys

  • working closely with local stakeholders, including people with a legal interest in the land and environmental organisations

  • preparing a targeted consultation for Weston Marsh, where we’ll share detailed proposals for that area

  • getting ready to submit our development consent order (DCO) application, which will include a Consultation Report showing how your feedback has shaped the design. We expect to submit this in summer 2027.

Please find attached the latest community bulletin.

Winter gritting

NCC cannot grit all of Norfolk's 6,159 mile (9,911 km) road network because of the time it would take and the cost involved. Priorities for gritting roads have been established on the basis of the route hierarchy and level of use.  The main roads will be gritted before other routes. Our three hour gritting runs cover a total of approximately 2,200 miles (3,500 km) on A, B and some C class roads - commuter and major bus routes and as far as is possible one route into all villages.  Some footways in the pedestrian areas of central King's Lynn, central Great Yarmouth and central Norwich are also treated as priority. National Highways treats 143 miles of trunk roads including the A11 and A47. While it is unlikely that any additional roads will be added to our current schedules, if you feel you have an exceptional case for amending them, you should contact your Parish or Town Clerk. If you live in Norwich you should contact your local councillor. Although the County Council carries out the assessment in line with the Winter Service Policy, the view of a parish or town council is important and is taken into consideration. Due to limited salt capacity on the gritting vehicles and time constraints, it is likely that an existing road may need to be removed from the current schedule to accommodate a new addition.
